Going up?……..or going down?

If your mind took a somewhat sexual turn at the title of today’s blog post, I am afraid that I am about to disappoint you.

Those of us who grew up in the 80’s have probably seen the 1983 movie “Class” with Andrew McCarthy, Jacqueline Bisset and Rob Lowe. Famous for an elevator scene where the young Jonathan (Andrew McCarthy) is being ‘educated’ by the older Ellen (Jacqueline Bisset). Memorable line in this scene where she asks him in her beautiful, breathy, posh British, sexy voice what he prefers…Going up??…..Or going down???? (Strangely, this quote is not even hinted at on IMDB) The innocents in the theatre thought she was talking about the elevator ride, whereas the rest of us were thinking something else entirely. 🙂

So the innocents reading the blog today will be delighted with the photos of the stairwell at Etihad Stadium and will completely understand the reference to going up or down. One photo is of the stairs if you were going up. The other is the view of the stairs as you go down.

The rest of you will be completely frustrated at the G-Rated photos and topic and will have to wait until I’m brave enough to write about those ‘other’ things that we were all thinking about. That will have to be under another blog heading and probably even a pseudonym. One that my mother and my boss don’t read. 🙂   🙂

Going up! (Say it with a posh English accent)

Going down. (Use that posh accent and make sure the plum is in your mouth for the word 'down')

A latecomer into the world of photography, I have found something that excites and motivates me. I proudly own a Nikon D5100 and last year upgraded to the D750 and it is my constant travelling companion. Wherever I go....it goes. I have done a CAE beginners course on DSLR photography as well as a 6 week class with the Moonee Valley Incinerator Gallery. Both courses taught me heaps and the two teacher were both incredible in their own ways. I am using this blog to develop my knowledge and my skills. It will probably become both a diary and tutorial for me so please be prepared for both. My friends are very encouraging and supportive of this path that I've decided to walk. They seem to think I'm a great photographer. I sincerely thank them for their encouragement but am acutely aware that I am a 'new' photographer not a 'great' photographer. I've seen great photography......I have a long way to go. And this is why I have taken up this challenge. I don't expect to create art every day, but I do believe that opportunities for capturing 'that' moment are right before me and I hope that I am able to capture with a lens what I see in my heart and mind.

  1. Haha, posh English accent, eh? Well this comment is in that lingo, tho not too sure about the post bit! Love these two images, wonderful abstracts – you write on my blog about photographing everyday things, and that’s very much what these are – portrayed excellently. A 🙂
