Be proud people.

Pride March_102

I went along to my first Pride March today. Not as a participant, (I haven’t decided to try my hand at being a lesbian……….yet.) but as a photographer practicing her street photography.

Goodness gracious, what an amazing spectacle.

The colour, the costumes, the lack of costume, the joy, the acceptance, the diversity and the tolerance was beautiful to behold.

My marvellous Melbourne put on a spectacular day for a spectacular event after a spectacular storm last night. The fear of rain was high in everyone’s mind but we need not have worried. Mother Nature loves her children and she wanted them to party in the sunshine.

I took over 900 photos without even trying!! It was only luck that saw me remember to put my second SD card in the camera before I left for the city. I would have been in serious strife if I had only the one. I didn’t even know that I had gone onto the second card until I uploaded the shots to the computer. Suddenly I started to panic when I saw that I only had a third of the parade!!! OMG!!! Where was the rest??

After some serious culling I have reduced the number down to 469. I will endeavour to reduce this number further by the end of the week. I don’t have time to edit that many photos!!

A latecomer into the world of photography, I have found something that excites and motivates me. I proudly own a Nikon D5100 and last year upgraded to the D750 and it is my constant travelling companion. Wherever I go....it goes. I have done a CAE beginners course on DSLR photography as well as a 6 week class with the Moonee Valley Incinerator Gallery. Both courses taught me heaps and the two teacher were both incredible in their own ways. I am using this blog to develop my knowledge and my skills. It will probably become both a diary and tutorial for me so please be prepared for both. My friends are very encouraging and supportive of this path that I've decided to walk. They seem to think I'm a great photographer. I sincerely thank them for their encouragement but am acutely aware that I am a 'new' photographer not a 'great' photographer. I've seen great photography......I have a long way to go. And this is why I have taken up this challenge. I don't expect to create art every day, but I do believe that opportunities for capturing 'that' moment are right before me and I hope that I am able to capture with a lens what I see in my heart and mind.
