Night photography.
As a novice photographer I try, where possible, to read up on my chosen hobby. We have magazines I can access through my workplace, in hard copy or online, and I follow Digital Photography School (DPS) via Facebook.
I do this to improve my basic knowledge and understanding of both my camera, a Nikon D5100, and my chosen editing programme, Adobe Lightroom 5. There is a mountain of information out there and it can be quite overwhelming but I really like the Facebook posts from DPS as I can quickly ascertain whether the post is going to be relevant or useful to me and I can always refer to the website to find articles on what I’m struggling with.
The other day I found myself struggling with my self-assessment that I wasn’t ‘growing’ as a photographer and on the weekend I saw the DPS challenge of the week. Night photography. Yay!!!! I can do that. (I chickened out of last week’s challenge. Note to self: Must learn to overcome the fear of portrait photography)
“I can do night photography.” I tell myself confidently. “I’ve done night photography.” With great thanks to Ernesto Rios for taking his CAE class out into the streets of my marvellous Melbourne to practice what he had been teaching we humble beginners.
I will get out there into the darkness with my trusty Nikon D5100 and tripod. I will play with my ISO, aperture and shutter speed settings. I will create.
Just not tonight. It has been a pretty long day and I’m already in my pyjamas. 🙂
